With the season 19 season finale
coming up in two weeks I figured I would take a break from talking about movies
to talk about this wonderful guilty pleasure. Thousands of people across the country
tune in every week to see what new dramatic event unfolds at the bachelor, and
the show never seems to disappoint. After watching the show with my sister we
had developed a few questions about the production of the show and what goes on
behind the scenes. After a little research here are some fun secrets you
probably didn't know.
- Filming for the bachelor/bachelorette usually last for about 7 weeks, longer than other reality shows so that the contestants have time to develop real emotions
- During casting, the 50 finalist must take an STD test, complete an 800 question psyche evaluation and meet with a psychiatrist. So if any contestant seems crazy, that happened after casting
- Contestants are only allowed to bring two suitcases and must bring a variety of clothes for warm or cold climates, fancy occasions, athletic activities, etc. They also have to pack at least 14 rose ceremony outfits in case they make it to the end of the show
- The first night of filming usually goes until the early morning, on this season they didn't complete filming until around 8am (that’s why it was getting light outside when girls were being sent home!)
- Contestant are encouraged by the producers to do quirky things when the get out of the limo and meet the bachelor/bachelorette for the first time
- All contestants and the bachelor are barred from watching TV, using phones, laptops, iPods, internet, etc. during the show
- They don’t actually eat on the one-on-one dates, food is sent to their hotel rooms before the date and the food on the table is just for show
- When filming the rose ceremony they only film the bachelor saying a few names at a time, then they take a break, the bachelor leaves the room (to memorize the next several girls’ names) and then comes back to start where they left off. This is why the girls always look so tired from standing by the end of the ceremony
- The fantasy suite doesn’t provide condoms, but they do advise that all girls be on birth control
- The in-the-moment interviews are sometimes filmed long after the event occurred
After I learned these secrets it
just made me even more intrigued by the show. Hopefully it has done the same
for you.
